A FACE IN THE CROWD

A FACE IN THE CROWD

One floor above
Two rows between
Dozens of scholars around
Even as we’re clustered
The scent of your hair still turns my head

Lavender it is
An alluring fragrance that fills the hallway
In black and white
Your beauty struck like a rainbow
As your smile stood like the night’s crescent

Down the hallway, out in the lawn
Your rhythmic steps leave me giddy
Your wild laughs and smiles, a painting in my heart

With beefed up courage, closer I came
Having rehearsed my lines from the night afore
To swirl your head, that heart is mine

All hopes were dashed and briskly I walked
When to a friend you whispered
“He’s just a face in the crowd.”
