A TAINTED FUTURE

A TAINTED FUTURE

With an outstretched arm, he hoped for alms

Accompanied with a smile his hopes were high

Unpolished, untapped, unstaggering in faith

Greeting back with a smile

That surge of beauty streaked across his face

This child like others

Reminds us of us

Waiting to bloom

His flower won’t wilt

In hopes that someday his future be clear

I reached for my pocket

A penny to give

If only a wand I just could wave

He wouldn’t be here,

An adult for childhood.

It’s time to go

We smile at each other

Like, lovers departing

In hopes that someday

Our future we would paint
