CELEBRATION OF PAIN

CELEBRATION OF PAIN

How can we dance to this silence
Why should we laugh at the tragedy
And then cry at this comedy
In pains they make us sing
And with sores on our palms, we still clap
Though our heart filed with bitterness
We scream, no one seems to hear
And when we are quiet
They say we have spoken well
Our fatherland they call it
Yet nothing belongs to us
Not even the fruit of our labour
Even amidst the suffering
We hustle like no man’s business
Struggling to survival
And after we gather a little
They come to snatch it all
Yet we all smile together
While they celebrate and we mourn
