Gone are the days when kids are comfortable with any clothes. Gone are those days that the concept of kids’ fashion seemed very distant. These days, kids have a different sphere in the fashion world. Special care, attention and creativity goes into making signature looks for kids. No mum wants to wear an over-sized dress or just anything for their kids. The children division of fashion now gets to make a statement, a very loud statement. They now have access to varieties of materials and styles that help them to set trends and create their unique fashion sense.
In terms of finance and economy, kids’ fashion is contributing significantly and the reality is that most people still glance over this expanding fashion brand. According to Barclays, a bank in the United Kingdom, kids’ fashion in India grossed $5.5 billion in 2018 and it is expected to reach $14 billion by 2022. Most fashion designers have branched out to create a kids’ sub-brand under their brand and some are yet to notice or take advantage of the constant market value surge in children fashion.
We are going to have a quick look at the different way children make a statement and express themselves through their wear.
BALL/ CUPCAKE DRESS
I have come to realize this is most kids favourite. Every little girl wants to look like a Disney princess. Too bad it is not a style they can rock everywhere. Ball dresses are suitable for birthdays, weddings, pageant or a princess themed party. The beauty of a ball dress is basically in the puffiness. However, you want to be careful while buying them. If it is too puffy or heavy, it becomes uncomfortable for your girls. And too much net materials can make them feel itchy. Trust me, nobody wants that kind of dress.
They are usually for character themed parties. Most girls would love to dress up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Elsa in Frozen or Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and some don’t really care as long as it is pink and they look like a princess. The boys will mostly prefer to dress up as magicians or as a cartoon character they like. Whatever they pick or decide to appear as it is an expression that parents should try not to shun.
Occasion wears are for specific events like baptism, communion, inter-house sports etc. Because this type of clothes is fixed and specified, in a way, parents tend to just go with the flow. However, there is nothing wrong with spicing up your son’s white baptism shirt with a little embroidery.
We all have that comfy top and short meant to never see the sunlight outside our house. Kids also have those and because they are indoor wears shouldn’t make them any less stylish. Choose comfortable and light materials.
The list goes on and on.
Kids dresses must be comfortable. While thinking about designs the first major concern should be the child’s comfort. We don’t want to let them think they have to be uncomfortable to look chic. Therefore, a lot of thought must go into fabric selection especially the lining fabric. Lastly, kids must know that appearance goes a long way. Before anybody gets to know you, the first thing they notice is how you look.
